My husband and I had the chance to vacation for a week in Fort Myers, Florida. It was great to have some time away from our kids, and to hang out with friends who live there. We found the perfect balance of down time and play time. Here’s our recommendations for the top things to do in Fort Myers:
Beaches
Fort Myers Beach
This was an obvious choice, since it is in Fort Myers. If you are looking for souvenir shopping, this would be the place to go, as there are many tourist shops along the beach.
Naples Pier and Beach
We spotted dolphins near the pier around midday! The beach and waves here were superior to Fort Myers Beach. While Fort Myers Beach had seaweed, the Naples beach was clean. The waves were bigger to play in, and there were also some nice sand volleyball courts where we played a pick-up game with some visiting Germans.
Defy Fort Myers
Wow. Defy Fort Myers is hands down one of the coolest places for adults to play. This indoor trampoline park includes “American Ninja Warrior” style challenges, parkour and more. As a triathlete, I could have spent hours there. It will make you feel like a kid again. It’s amazing.
Escape Tactics Fort Myers
We have only done an Escape Room once prior to this experience, but this one drew us in. We chose the Burlesque Room, where we tried to solve who was skimming money from show profits while venturing through a risque 1920s set. You only have one hour to solve the mystery and escape. We finished with 6 minutes to go. It would be tough to top the experience that we had there. I wonder how fast you could escape?
Cristof’s on McGregor
We dined out one night at Cristof’s and were impressed by the atmosphere (we booked a table outside in the evening), as well as the menu. Portions were extremely generous, and the food was top notch.
Banyan Tree in front of Lee County Courthouse
What’s so cool about a tree? That’s what we thought until we saw it. It was definitely worth the trip downtown to see it (and climb it). Banyan trees grow out of a host tree. They produce aerial roots that eventually touch the ground, making it appear to have many trunks. You’ve got to see it.
Other Must Eats in Fort Myers
We didn’t stay long enough to hit up all of the hot eating spots, but these three are on our to-do list for future trips! Have you been? What’s good?
- The Edison: An American bar & grill boasting an indulgent ambiance.
- Ford’s Garage: Prime burgers and Craft Beer. Need I say more?
- Capone’s Coal Fired Pizza: “Pizza so good it should be illegal.”
More Activities in Fort Myers
While we didn’t fit bike rentals into our short week, it’s definitely something I’ll do next time. There are trails everywhere, and fortunately with bikes, you don’t have to pay for parking. There were several bike rental options in the area. Check out Trek Bicycle Store or Coastline Cyclery.
Fort Myers with Kids
Traveling with kids and looking for some kid-friendly activities? Lakes Park is a great place if you have young kids! We just used the park as a place to run, but they had a FREE splash pad, as well as a mini train on tracks you can ride. There are also a lot of fun looking mini-golf options around.
We have gone on more exotic trips in the past, but this was one of the funnest trips we have ever taken. Hope you enjoy it – we can’t wait to go again! Which suggestion will you try?
