Whether you’re buying for a girl or boy, these are some of the best adventure-inspiring gifts for kids this December 2018. Without further ado, here’s the list, organized by age.

Adventure Gift Guide for Babies & Toddlers
Inspire your babe to explore from birth. These natural and wood toys are beautiful expressions of adventure, exploration, and travel. Your infant will love this southwest inspired Wooden Baby Gym with crotched hanging fox, mountain, and cacti toys. This solid wood Airplane from Hape could inspire them to take to the skies. Or gift this beautiful board book of the classic children’s book: We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Helen Oxenburry. You could also stuff these adorable sunglasses in her stocking and get ready for that beach vacay this winter. At affordable prices, these adventure gifts for infants and toddlers will be so fun to unbox.
Age 3 to 5
Adventure Gift Guide for Preschoolers
If you know an imaginative preschooler, these gifts are perfect for them. How about gifting a plush Camp Fire set from Crate and Barrel or this handmade one for $10 less? It will be sure to equip your preschooler for some indoor camping this winter! Another option is this classic Tin Train Wind Up toy for the one who loves trains. If he loves to play hide and seek, this VW Camper Van Tent can provide hours of fun. I’m partial to this doorway puppet theater, that kids can use to create and share adventure stories with friends and family this holiday season. Or give one of the most darling new Children’s books of the year that celebrates the dreams parents have for their children: The Wonderful Things You Will Be by Emily Winfield Martin.
Age 6-9
Adventure Gift Guide for Elementary Students
Get creative with your child or grandchild using these wonderful adventure gifts this December 2018. Of course this LEGO Treehouse tops the list and will be a great addition to the LEGO-er in your family. If you have an active child, start gearing up now for spring by gifting a new bicycle from Woom. Listed as one of the best kids bikes of 2018, this is sure to help your kid explore the neighborhood next summer. It wouldn’t be an adventure gift guide for kids without a bike!
Or maybe your child likes science and learning how stuff works. What about a rock tumbler? Turn rocks that you find on your vacations into gemstones! This one from National Geographic is perfect for beginners and backed by a two year warranty. Got a reader in your house? This New York Times bestseller will make you both laugh! Sam and Dave Dig a Hole by Sam Barnett is full of visual humor. Why not purchase a couple smaller items and stick them inside a new adventure backpack like this one from Fjallraven. Their high quality bags will last you a lifetime, and if they don’t…just bring it back for a new one.
Age 10-13
Adventure Gift Guide for Pre-Teens
Do you have upcoming travel plans? Encourage your young artist to put their creativity to work using this Instax Mini Camera. Like a throwback to the Polaroid you used growing up, this will let your preteen capture tons of fun moments with their friends and family. And it might put off putting a smart phone in their hands a little longer. Gift them a new Harry Potterâ„¢ suitcase from Pottery Barn Teen and announce a family vacation! Or if you don’t have any travel plans, you could give the Harry Potter Illustrated Edition Collection. The same stories you love filled with beautiful artwork on every page.
If they’d prefer to get their hands dirty, purchase them a DIY Succulent wall garden. You and your Tween can plant the cuttings together. After the roots make a strong enough web in 10-12 weeks, you can even hang it on the wall. It’s a great houseplant for any family that travels frequently as it can survive a while without being watered. Another idea would be to gift them this scratch-off world map. You and your tweenager can scratch off places you’ve been or would like to visit someday! Great additions to our adventure gift guide for kids.
Age 14+
Adventure Gift Guide for Teenagers
I don’t have a teenager, but I got a nephew who is and I was one once… so here goes nothing. If your teenager does not have a drone yet, this is a super fun gift for the teen that loves to explore. If they become proficient enough, they can upgrade someday to a high end drone with a camera and do all sorts of things with it, maybe even make some money. Just beware of where they fly it–there’s tons of FAA regulations about small unmanned aircraft (my husband is an airline pilot…he tells me these things).
Some other great ideas for teens who like to explore are: this Adidas Waist Pack (they’re not just coming back, they’re already here), this Disc Golf starter set to encourage outdoor activity, new white Nikes, or an underwater camera for their next summer break or family vacation. All great ideas for teens that make this adventure gift guide for kids.
